How to Accept Payments in Multiple Currencies from India in 2026

Indian businesses with customers across multiple geographies often need to accept USD from US clients, GBP from UK clients, EUR from European clients, and AED from UAE clients — all while settling to INR in their Indian bank. This guide covers the practical setup for multi-currency payment acceptance from India.

Why Multi-Currency Acceptance Matters

Most international clients prefer to pay in their own currency:

  • US clients want to pay in USD
  • UK clients prefer GBP
  • European clients prefer EUR
  • UAE clients prefer AED Forcing all international clients to pay in USD (while acceptable) creates friction for non-US clients. An EU client sending EUR to a USD account still works, but the client sees it as an international FX transaction on their end — more friction than a local EUR transfer.

With multi-currency VBAs, each client pays in their native currency via a domestic-looking transfer. Better conversion, lower fees for the client, same outcome for you: INR in your Indian bank.

Multi-Currency VBA Setup via Playto Pay

Playto Pay provides VBAs across major currencies for Indian businesses:

CurrencyTransfer Method for ClientYour VBA

GBPUK Faster Payments (UK domestic)UK sort code + account number

AEDUAE local bank transferUAE IBAN

All convert to INR at zero forex markup and settle to your Indian bank daily.

For AUD: Use Skydo or Wise (both provide AUD VBAs) for wire receipts from Australian clients. Playto Pay card acceptance (4% flat) works for Australian clients paying by Visa/Mastercard.

Card Payments: One Rate, All Currencies

For clients who prefer paying by card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay), Playto Pay accepts card payments in any currency at 4% flat, zero forex markup, regardless of the card's issuing currency.

  • UAE client pays in AED: 4% flat All convert to INR at mid-market rate and settle daily to your Indian bank.

Invoicing in Multiple Currencies

One invoice, one currency: Always invoice in the client's home currency. Don't mix currencies on one invoice.

US client invoice: Amounts in USD

UK client invoice: Amounts in GBP

EU client invoice: Amounts in EUR

UAE client invoice: Amounts in AED

INR equivalent for your accounting: Your accounting software (Zoho Books, Tally) records the INR amount received at the rate your platform applied.

FIRA per currency: Each Playto Pay VBA transaction generates FIRA showing the foreign currency amount (USD/GBP/EUR/AED) and INR equivalent. Same documentation regardless of currency.

Multi-Currency Reporting and Accounting

For Indian businesses with multi-currency revenue:

Functional currency: INR for all Indian accounting purposes. All foreign currency revenue converts to INR at the exchange rate on the date of receipt.

Revenue recognition: Recognize revenue in INR at the exchange rate on the invoice date or receipt date (depends on your accounting method and CA's guidance).

GST reporting: All international multi-currency revenue reported in INR equivalent on GST returns. FIRA provides the INR equivalent per transaction.

Exchange rate documentation: Playto Pay's FIRA shows the exchange rate applied. This is your documentation for the conversion rate used in accounting.
